Help Select the Next President of the
United States of America
"Nevada
will now have a crucial vote in choosing our
next Democratic presidential candidate. This
means the Democrats vying to be our next
president will debate the issues most
important to Nevada and all of the West –
such as water, immigration and planning for
growth. Nevada Democrats can expect to shake
hands with the people running for president
and get to know their positions on the
issues."
-
Sen. Steven Horsford, D-North Las Vegas
Here in Nevada, Democrats select their
Presidential Candidate preference through a
“caucus” system. Every four years, each
Nevadan who is, a.) registered to vote and,
b.) has selected their political party
affiliation as “Democrat” is eligible to
participate in the Presidential selection
process.
In the Nevada Democratic Presidential
Caucus, Democrats select their personal
preference as to which candidate should be
the Presidential nominee and then select
delegates at the neighborhood, county, state
and finally the national level.
Your active participation is needed to make
sure Nevada’s voice is heard with the input
of as many Democrats as possible. It’s as
easy as 1, 2, 3!
1.) Precinct Caucus Meetings,
dates TBD -
Attend your precinct caucus meeting. At
these meetings, you and your neighbors will
indicate your personal selection for the
next President of the United States or if
you wish to remain uncommitted to any
particular candidate. You’ll then select
Delegates to your County Convention.
2.) County Democratic Conventions,
dates TBD - Delegates
representing the precincts in your county
will deliberate on the issues of the day,
approve the County Party Platform, and
select representatives to the Nevada
Democratic Party Convention.
3.) Nevada State Democratic Party
Convention, dates TBD
– Delegates to the state convention
will craft the Platform of the state party,
select the state party’s officers and select
the Delegates to the Democratic National
Convention. Nevada Democrats will send a
total of 32 Delegates and 4 Alternates to
the national convention
to be held in Denver, Colorado.
Twenty-two of these delegates are elected by
Congressional District or at-large. Nevada
Democrats chosen to represent us will cast
the state’s electoral votes for the
Democratic Nominees for President and
Vice-President of the United States. |
